My experience with growing PCI from seed has been... It's easy, really! In fact, one of the primary reasons to so diligent about dead-heading PCI pods is too prevent volunteers seedlings from mixing with your registered hybrid. (Speaking from experience, it's difficult culling volunteers from hybrids!)
The hard part is growing the seedlings for a year or two, or longer, to see if any are unique enough to be worthy of considering as possible introductions. It takes a tough heart and some grim determination when it comes time to weed out the "undesirables", but it must be done in order to allow the chosen few to florish. They may be as few as 1 or 2 out of 100 that are considered as candidates for introduction!
